Lake Danao, Ormoc: a peaceful retreat
Last Updated on November 5, 2022
Lake Danao is a hidden gem only 20 km away from Ormoc. Surrounded by nature, the lake offers a peaceful retreat from the busy city. You can rent a floating nippa hut and enjoy the fresh air, relaxing in the middle of the lake. For the more adventurous type, you can rent a kayak and explore the lake. There’s a lot of small coves and the lake is really big, take at least 3 hours to really explore it. It’s the perfect place for a day-trip from Ormoc, enjoying the nature and the fresh air.
There are also a couple of waterfalls you can trek to. You’ll need to find someone to guide you and be prepared to trek through the forest with no real path to follow.
There’s also a river just next to the lake you can swim in, the water is clean and super refreshing. There’s also a view deck a couple of kilometers away, you’ll see the whole lake, the place is beautiful and really relaxing. At the view deck, you can go down on the bank of the lake, you’ll also get a nice view of the lake.
Getting to Lake Danao from Ormoc
It’s mostly frequented by locals so avoid weekends if you don’t want to be with the crowd. Getting to Lake Danao can be tricky, there are not a lot of trips going there, from Ormoc you can take a jeepney but it gets full really fast. You can also hire a tricycle, I paid 500 pesos for mine, it was nice because he took me to the viewpoint, and guided me a bit, showing me the nice spots.
Entrance fee: free
There’s no restaurant there, only a couple of sari-sari, so bring some food if you’re planning on spending the day.
