The Big Island of Hawaii is an easy and safe place to travel solo and definitely a place to add to your bucket list.
There are so many unique things to do here like visit an active volcano at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, night snorkel with manta rays, and take a Kona coffee farm tour.
You will need a car to get around the island as it’s big and doesn’t have a great public transportation system. But that’s okay! The roads are well-maintained and not very busy or confusing.
There are plenty of group tours to take so you can have some human interactions and make new friends for a few hours. Or, if you want some alone time, it’s easy enough to find a secluded pocket on a beach and stare off onto the horizon.
If you don’t like eating alone at a restaurant, there are many delicious to-go options so you aren’t sacrificing quality. I like to pick up poke from Da Poke Shack and take it to Magic Sands Beach to people watch or sit on the grass at What’s Shakin’ with my wrap sandwich and fresh fruit smoothie.
Don’t pass up on visiting the Big Island for your next solo trip!
Las Vegas, Nevada

Las Vegas is often seen as a couples’ or group destination, but it is fantastic for solo travelers. When I was younger, I never would have dreamed of going to Vegas on my own. But that all changed when I recently went there solo.
You can wander the Strip, go shopping, gamble, catch a show (that’s a must!), or head to Freemont Street for a different experience.
If you are an outdoor lover like I am, head out to Red Rock Canyon for a hike or take a day trip to the Grand Canyon! There are so many things to do in Vegas that it is easy to fill your days and nights. You will definitely never be bored.
Consider staying in my favorite hotel Harrah’s, centrally located on the strip, and enjoy an amazing meal at Ramsay’s Kitchen. Grab a seat at the bar and connect with fellow travelers or locals.
Don’t be afraid to explore and enjoy the freedom of solo travel in this exciting city. Las Vegas offers a unique and memorable experience, especially when you’re exploring it on your own terms.

With all the adventure and active things to do in the Scottsdale area, it’s the perfect place to go and explore the outdoors, plus it’s one of the safest cities so it’s great for solo travelers.
Hiking is one of the most popular outdoor activities in Scottsdale and since many of the trails (like Camelback or Pinnacle Peak) are pretty busy year-round, it’s super easy and safe to go out on your own, but there are even meetup hiking groups or guided tours you can join if you’re worried about going alone.
Visiting the small Wild West town of Cave Creek, about 30 minutes north of Scottsdale, is also super fun, especially on Wednesdays or Fridays when the Buffalo Chip Saloon does bull riding (they also have country music and dancing here).
There’s also a great horseback riding company in between Cave Creek and Scottsdale, MacDonald’s Ranch, that takes really good care of their horses and even offers Cowboy Cookouts for those wanting a more Western experience.
Scottsdale is also a great place to find healthier food. Some of my favorite organic restaurants in Scottsdale include Sapiens Paleo Kitchen, Pita Jungle, Tocaya Modern Mexican, Farm & Craft, and The Herb Box.

For a great destination in the US for a solo trip, head on over to Memphis, TN. Memphis is a great place to travel solo as there’s plenty to see and do to keep you busy. It’s also a place where friendly conversation among strangers is common, so it’s likely you’ll easily find company if you’d like to.
Memphis is a buzzing town that has something for most anyone to enjoy. Start in the heart of the city with Beale Street where you’ll find great live music and BBQ restaurants. Rendezvous in particular has the best brisket and ribs.
For a dose of history be sure to visit the National Civil Rights Museum located at the (former) Lorraine Motel. This hotel turned museum is the site where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. It’s well preserved as a historical memorial and learning center and it’s worth a visit.
Be sure to stop by Stax Museum of American Soul Music where numerous well-known artists recorded some of their best songs. And of course don’t forget to check out Sun Studio which is another famous recording studio in town. And the place where none other than Elvis himself was discovered!
Allow yourself a full day to visit Graceland, Elvis’s home and resting place. There’s a lot to see there and you won’t want to miss any of it!
There’s plenty to see and do in Memphis to keep you busy for a few days. Enjoy your time there!

Laguna Beach is the perfect destination for a solo getaway. With its beautiful scenery, cool art scene, and laid-back SoCal culture, it’s an easy place to explore on your own.
I always feel safe wandering here, strolling along the boardwalk, exploring the many coves, or browsing the unique shops on Forest Avenue. The mix of locals and visitors creates a welcoming vibe, making it a great place to meet people or to enjoy some peaceful solo time by the ocean.
One of my favorite stops is The Taco Stand, a local spot where the tacos are fresh, delicious, and worth the wait. Standing in line, I always end up chatting with someone, whether it’s a fellow traveler or a Laguna local with great tips on what to do next.
There are many hotel options in Laguna, but for a charming and comfortable stay, the Laguna Hotel and Spa is a great choice. It’s not the cheapest option, but the character makes it worth it.
Whether you’re relaxing on the beach, checking out the art galleries, or enjoying the sunset, Laguna Beach is a dream destination for solo travelers.
Charleston, South Carolina

The charming city of Charleston is one of the best cities for solo travel in the U.S.—especially if you’re a foodie, ghost story lover, or history buff.
The Vendue Hotel is a great place to stay and mingle with other guests over their complementary happy hour or at their rooftop bar.
Taking a food tour in Charleston is another easy way to meet other travelers and learn about the local food and restaurants. Most tours stop at the must-see City Market which dates back to 1807. You’ll learn about the its history and the best stalls for South Carolina’s famous foods. Don’t miss the she-crab soup or low-country boils, two of Holy City’s seafood specialties. For some of the best Carolina BBQ in town try Poogan’s Smokehouse.
Charleston is one of the oldest American cities. Walking the cobblestone streets will transport you back to colonial times. Even on your own, you’ll feel safe strolling through Rainbow Row, and other landmarks such as Riley Waterfront Park, St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, and The Old Exchange.
With a history steeped in the slave trade, the American Revolution, and historical criminal legends, it’s no wonder in addition to being one of America’s favorite places, Charleston is also considered one of the most haunted!
Grand Canyon, Arizona

The Grand Canyon is an incredible place for a solo adventure. With so much to do, it’s impossible to feel alone. Unless, of course, you want to soak in the views in peaceful solitude. The scenery is amazing, with so many viewpoints, paved trails through evergreen forests, and more challenging hikes that lead deep into the canyon. Even just wandering along the rim, you’ll pass cyclists, hikers, and fellow travelers from all over the world.
The Visitor Center at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon is a great first stop, with plenty of parking and rangers ready to help you plan your visit. If you’re looking for an easy stroll or a challenge like hiking down to the Colorado River, they can suggest the best trails for your experience level. If you’re staying overnight, there’s a campground nearby. The historic lodges provide comfortable stays, but book early through the National Park’s website.
For a casual but delicious bite, The Fountain at Bright Angel Lodge is a must. Their breakfast burritos are excellent, and the ice cream is perfect on a warm day. It’s also a great place to meet fellow travelers. Find a bench overlooking the canyon, and chances are, you’ll end up in a conversation with someone who has a great story to share.
