Start by a romantic stroll at the beautiful University of Michigan Nichols Arboretum. Gallup Park is also a nice option for a picnic and a stroll, during the warmer month you can also rent kayaks there.

If you and your partner like museums, you’ll find several good options such as the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology, the University of Michigan Museum of Natural History, and the Museum of Art.

Ludington

You can also drive north to Manistee and visit Orchard Beach State Park and the Manistee County Historical Museum.

Open for camping from April through October, Sterling State Park is one of the best state parks in Michigan. It’s the only state park on Lake Erie and is located just an hour from Detroit.

The park offers 1 mile of sandy beach, boating, and shore fishing on Lake Erie, a fishing lagoon, lakefront camping, wildlife viewing, and 7 miles of trails, as well as three lagoons and a sandy beachfront near the mouth of Sandy Creek.
