Catalonia Royal Tulum is an all-inclusive adult-only resort located between Cancun and Tulum Mexico. The resort is nestled in a lush jungle and has private beach access, so you get the best of both worlds!

Catalonia Resort is the perfect place for a romantic getaway. In fact, the entire resort is geared towards couples. As you make your way through the jungle, you’ll discover heart-shaped details around every corner. Wooden walkways, flanked by signs inscribed with quotes to inspire lovers, meander their way through the jungle to the beach. Walkways are romantically lit at night.

Couples will find it easier than ever to focus on one another in this serene atmosphere. Except for the rambunctious Rauxa Club, the entire resort is peaceful and quiet. Perhaps that’s why one of the most popular features among visitors, the adorable coati, make their home at Catalonia.

There are several restaurants on site, perfect for a romantic candlelit dinner. My favorite is the outdoor restaurant, strung with pretty lights, where you can relax under the jungle canopy. 

Activities for couples include couples massages and other spa treatments. Snag a hammock on the beach and listen to the relaxing sound of the waves or dive in and check out the swim-up bar. 

One of my favorite activities was to just sit on the covered patio listening to the gentle rain drum a beat on the jungle canopy while life’s stressors melted away one drop at a time.

The entire resort is a great place to relax and recharge before you head back to reality. I left the place feeling ridiculously relaxed.

Had your fill of relaxing and looking or something a little more exciting? The resort offers scheduled activities such as cornhole, ladder ball, beach volleyball, bocce ball, bingo, ping pong pool volleyball, dance lessons, and more. Area activities include a cenote park and swimming with sea turtles. 

Moon Palace Nizuc Resort, Cancun

As someone who loves to travel, I can confidently say that Moon Palace Nizuc Resort in Cancun, Mexico is an excellent choice for couples seeking a romantic getaway. This all-inclusive resort is the ideal setting for couples thanks to its breathtaking beachfront location, relaxing pools, excellent restaurants, and numerous amenities.

The resort offers 17 dining options, including seafood, Italian, Mexican, and Asian-inspired dishes. Our personal favorite was the Indian with its delicious food and amazing atmosphere. For couples, there is also the option to book a romantic dinner on the beach that I would highly recommend.

There is also an adults-only British-style pub where you can enjoy a pint, play some pool, or listen to live music in the evening.

A variety of amenities are also available at Nizuc to make your stay special. The main resort pool runs the length of the property with small bridges connecting the main lobby to the pools and beach. There are several different areas of the pool to enjoy.

Whether you want to unwind on a poolside lounger, swim up to the bar for a refreshing drink, or relax with a book, different areas of the pool each have their own distinct vibe, and there is a spot for everyone. We particularly enjoyed the afternoon when a local band played music on the stage located in the middle of the pool.

The Awe Spa, which is situated beside the golf course, is yet another fantastic Nizuc amenity. Of course, you can book couples’ massages, or if you’re feeling a bit more active, you can play a round of golf together. Additionally, the golf course has a stunning pool that is quiet and secluded.

While all the room options at Nizuc are excellent, my tip for couples would be to book an oceanfront room. Each morning we watched the gorgeous sunrise over the ocean while having our coffee and breakfast on the balcony. With the 24-hour room service, you can order your breakfast to be delivered at a particular time, making watching the sunrise a lovely experience each day. 

Overall, we had a wonderful time at the Moon Palace Nizuc Resort and we highly recommend it for couples looking to escape and reconnect in Mexico.

Live Aqua Cancun, Cancun

Located about 30 minutes from the Cancun airport, Live Aqua Cancun is one of the most romantic Mexican resorts for couples. As an adults-only resort, it offers an elegant, romantic, and laid-back setting right on the white sand beach with turquoise water. 

One thing I loved about Live Aqua Cancun was the personalized attention I received staying in one of the suites. Those staying in Aqua Club level rooms and above not only receive access to the exclusive Aqua Club which offers top-shelf liquor and food throughout the day, plus incredible views of the sea, but butler service as well.

Immediately upon arriving, I was whisked up to Aqua Club for check-in, bypassing the check-in line, and introduced to my butler who took care of everything needed for the stay, from dining reservations to ensuring I always had something to drink in the room. Well worth the splurge!

For even more romance, consider the honeymoon suite. Added amenities include a 4-course romantic dinner, jacuzzi prep, and a luxurious couples’ massage. 

Live Aqua Cancun offers up over 10 places to dine and drink. I highly recommend Sea Corner for lunch with your toes in the sand and dinner at MB is an almost must. Be sure to make your reservations in advance!

If you want to leave the resort and explore more of the Riviera Maya, you’re steps away from the Cancun Hotel Zone and day trips to destinations like Chichen Itza, Playa del Carmen, and Isla Mujeres can easily be arranged. 

St. Regis Punta Mita Resort, Punta Mita

Behind the gates of the heavily secured 1,500-acre Punta Mita resort and residential community is the St. Regis Punta Mita Resort. The 22-acre beachfront resort offers a luxurious paradise forty-five minutes north of Puerta Vallarta. We stayed at the St. Regis to celebrate my husband’s birthday. It is an excellent hotel in Mexico for couples looking to relax and recharge.

One of the reasons I love to stay at the St. Regis is the hotel’s design. The luxurious low-lying buildings with ocean views and outdoor walkways give me the feeling of staying in a boutique hotel with all the amenities of a St. Regis.

In addition to the oversized guestrooms and bathrooms, each guestroom has a butler to assist you during your stay. The signature St. Regis butlers are known for anticipating the needs of their guests and making their stay seamless.

We generally asked our butler to assist with transportation and scheduling a visit to El Surf Club, one of several beach clubs within Punta Mita, so my husband could check out another surf spot. Your butler can also assist with booking excursions to places like the Hidden Beach, Monkey Mountain, and nearby snorkeling adventures.

However, you never have to leave the resort. We spent most of our days at the pool, relaxing on the beach, and experiencing tranquility at the spa. The St. Regis Punta Mita Resort is where dreams come true!

Tips for your stay:

• Book your transportation to/from the hotel in advance. The concierge can arrange for your transportation, and the cost is comparable to booking through a transportation service. 
• Upgrade to an ocean-view room. The views are stunning and worth the extra money.
• Check out the other beach clubs within Punta Mita to mix up your stay.
• Book the beachfront barbecue dinner and have a front-row seat to an epic sunset over the water.

Secrets Maroma, Punta Maroma

Secrets Maroma is one of the best resorts in Mexico for couples. The hotel is an all-inclusive resort in the Riviera Maya between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.

My husband and I left the kids behind with the grandparents for a friend’s adult-only wedding. We were a little unsure of what to expect since we are used to traveling with our kids. Secrets of Maroma did not disappoint.

All food and drinks were already included. Snacks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, restaurants, breakfast buffets, you name it.

In addition to their regular grills and cafes, there are multiple restaurants with themed cuisine like Mexican, Italian, and Pan-Asian. We grabbed a nighttime ice cream and cookie every night from a cafe.

The servers are everywhere around the pool and beach area to take your order and refill your drinks. Definitely try the Mango Tango if you like your fruity cocktails.

The vacation was a dream come true with a stunning resort and ocean view, a jacuzzi tub on the balcony, and endless beach and pool time.

There is a fitness center and several gardens to walk through. The grounds of the resort are breathtaking.

Add an upgrade to pamper yourselves at the spa with a couples’ massage.

Scheduled activities like snorkeling, yoga, and beach volleyball are included in your stay. Fun games such as billiards, mini-golf, and soccer billiards are available. They even had a ping pong table and a life-size chess set in one of the shallow pools!

You can book a tour directly through the hotel to explore Chichen Itza, zip line through the rainforest, or swim in a cenote. It’s an extra cost, but they take care of all the details including transportation.

We decided to go through a local company for SCUBA diving. We saw sea turtles, tons of fish, eels, and even a bull shark.

It was definitely a romantic vacation to remember. Now we are sold on the all-inclusive resort idea and are planning our next couple getaway!

Hotel Quinta Bella, Huatulco, Oaxaca

Resorts don’t have to be enormous to be great and Hotel Quinta Bella in Huatulco, Oaxaca is a perfect example of that. This gorgeous 44-room resort is located on the oceanfront with a perfect view of the bay, far away from the hotel zone and a short distance from the charming town center.

The beach in front of the resort is private, quiet, and equipped with sun loungers, umbrellas, and food and drink served to your seat.

Most of the rooms at Hotel Quinta Bella offer a view of the ocean or the mountains, and some even have their own private plunge pools.

The two beachfront pools are my favorite place to cool off with a cocktail and the view is absolutely to die for. The ocean-view full-service spa is also not to be missed. The prices are very fair and there’s nothing quite like a relaxing massage while listening to the waves roll in and out.

Although Hotel Quinta Bella is small, it offers 7 of the best award-winning restaurants in Huatulco, along with two excellent bars. From a wood-fired oven pizzeria to an oceanfront candle-lit fine dining experience, there is so much variety for a boutique resort.

The best thing about Hotel Quinta Bella is that even though it’s bursting with amenities and fantastic restaurants, it’s an affordable and comfortable place for a romantic getaway in Mexico.

Rancho Encantado, Bacalar

Bacalar, located about four and a half hours south of Cancun in the Yucatan Peninsula, is known for its stunning Lagoon of Seven Colors, with water that’s jaw-dropping shades of turquoise and azure. In fact, the lagoon is so gorgeous, that the town is often called the Maldives of Mexico!

If you’re looking for a romantic place to stay in Bacalar, consider Rancho Encantado, a secluded resort along the banks of the Bacalar Lagoon. My husband and I stayed here for a couple of nights on a recent getaway to Mexico and were wowed by every aspect of this resort. 

The location along the lagoon not only offers stunning views but also the possibility to dive into the inviting water or cruise across it on a kayak or paddle board (both available for rent from the resort!).

Once we got tired from having fun in the sun, we indulged in the onsite spa, by getting a relaxing couples massage.  And we didn’t even need to leave the resort for food, the onsite Los Hechizos restaurant dishes up tasty Yucatanian dishes, made with fresh and local ingredients. We even had our dinner served out on the overwater deck, definitely the best seat in the house for sunset!

While there’s plenty to keep you occupied at the resort, you should absolutely go explore the town, there are so many things to do in Bacalar for couples, from playing in the natural lazy river at Los Rapidos or going snorkeling in Cenote Azul.

Don’t miss grabbing tacos at Barbanegra Bacalar in town, before heading back to the resort for another day of relaxing in paradise.

The Grand Isla Navidad Resort is a phenomenal resort for a very reasonable price. It is not the newest resort in Mexico but it was built with quality materials that have stood the test of time.

My wife and I chose the Grand Isla Navidad Resort for a long weekend to introduce our baby to the beach. In the past, our beach trips were to remote surfing destinations that are far from luxurious. As first-time parents, we wanted to make sure this trip had the amenities to keep a baby safe but allowed us time together.

The resort is located in the historic port of Barra de Navidad but technically falls in the state of Colima because it is on the other side of the harbor from the town. It is a four-and-a-half-hour drive from our home in Guadalajara, Jalisco. We broke the drive up into two parts so we could eat lunch in Comala, Colima. It is a very enjoyable and easy drive when compared to the drive to Puerto Vallarta.

The Grand Isla Navidad is a very large hotel with beautifully manicured grounds that go on and on. There is a lot of space to explore without a lot of people around. The hotel has its own marina which is small when compared to Puerto Vallarta but still shelters a fair number of luxury yachts.

Water taxis shuttle guests around the harbor. It is less than five minutes to Barra de Navidad and less than ten minutes to the seafood restaurants in La Culebra. In the morning, I would paddle my surfboard across the channel to surf the wave in Barra de Navidad.

The food was spectacular everywhere we ate: the hotel, Barra de Navidad, and La Culebra. There is a regional style of seafood that is worth returning for.

The pools are expansive and have a couple of small water slides connecting one section to another. There is a small cove that is protected from the swell energy and perfect for little kids to play in the water and sand.

We found the staff to be warm and welcoming at all points of contact.

The Grand Isla Navidad Resort is a destination that we will be returning to. It strikes the perfect balance of price and comfort.

Casa Velas, Puerto Vallarta

We chose to book a stay at Secrets as we were celebrating a special birthday and wanted a modern resort with first-class facilities. We weren’t disappointed!

Secrets suites are roomy and designed with both a vibrant and neutral color palette. Choices of suites range from Junior and Tropical to Swim-Out and Sea-View, and for those looking for something special, there are Presidential suites.

Around the resort, the landscaped gardens are maintained beautifully. Leafy pathways and bridges lead to fish ponds and secret spots to relax on a hammock or lounger. Keep a look out for the resident iguanas, sunning themselves around the resort. 

Secrets has a variety of themed restaurants serving Pan-Asian, Italian, French, and Mexican, so dining is a real event. In the Japanese restaurant, you can watch the chef show off his culinary skills at the hibachi table.

The resort has four pools (the quiet pool being our favorite) and eight bars.

If you want to do something active, plenty of things are on offer, from volleyball to yoga and even aqua cycling! Beach activities include snorkeling off the beach and, if you are lucky, seeing one of the resident turtles and scuba diving (at additional cost).

For complete relaxation for the body and soul, the Pevonia Spa offers relaxing massages for couples in beautiful surroundings.

So if you are looking for a stunning resort to enjoy a wonderful romantic getaway with your partner, Secrets Akumal is the place for you!

As someone who has visited this resort several times, I can attest to the exceptional treatment and luxurious amenities available here.

Firstly, I visited this resort on both my birthday and our anniversary, where the staff went above and beyond to make our special occasions unforgettable. We were even treated to champagne and a fruit tray on the beach for our anniversary!

Me and my fiance picked this resort as it has several à-la-carte restaurants, a choice of different swimming pools, swim-up bars, a gym, a spa, and a variety of day and evening entertainment. Not to mention that it’s on the edge of a beautiful stretch of beach that is regularly cleaned and maintained.

The rooms are clean, modern, and well equipped too and you can use the free mini-bar or room service until your heart’s content. 

The activities around the pool were one of the favorite parts of our trip. From tye-dying a souvenir t-shirt to trying to run the magic carpet gauntlet, there was always something going on. If you’re a sociable couple then there are endless possibilities to meet other people. The foam party was great fun and even featured dancers from Coco Bongos. There was also a great variety of high-quality evening entertainment, from dancers to karaoke. 

If you’d prefer some quality time then there are many parts of the resort or beach that are quieter and more relaxing. There are also health and well-being activities such as beach yoga that can help you escape into the beautiful surroundings. 

Be sure to book the restaurants as soon as you arrive to get the best times and bag a sunlounger early, especially if you want a spot near the daily entertainment.
