If you’re looking for one of the best fall destinations in New England for couples then you can’t beat Boothbay Harbor, Maine.

After all, this cozy little fishing village overlooks the Atlantic Ocean and features a charming little harbor that is filled with lobster boats and colorful lobster buoys that float up and down in the water.

So, couples can walk hand in hand over the wooden footbridge that extends the length of the harbor. You can even stop in the middle to learn about the history of a local historic building before sampling some local fare at the Lobsterman’s Coop.

Afterward, admire stunning foliage from the Gregory Hiking Trail or go on a scenic drive along Route 1. It’s easily one of the most beautiful roads in Maine and is best driven between late September and early October, when foliage is at its best.

During the fall check out festivals like the South Boston Street Festival or the Boston Local Food Festival. Or, head a little outside the city for a super romantic fall activity, apple picking! Wander the orchard hand in hand as you pick a few apples to enjoy during your trip.
